Edward Bryan Biography
|
||||
| C.
Edward Bryan received his early musical education in his native Jacksonville
and later studied at the Juilliard School of Music in New York City and
at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York. He engaged in advanced
study abroad at the Mozart Academy in Salzburg and the Royal Conservatory
of Copenhagen. He became organist and choirmaster at Riverside Baptist Church on January 1, 1942, and except for a leave of absence for duty in the Navy during World War II, Mr. Bryan continued to serve the church until his death in 1977. He was active in the music and cultural life of Jacksonville through his participation in the local chapter of the American Guild of Organists, the Civic Music Association, the Friday Musicale, the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra and the Cummer Gallery of Art. Mr. Bryan founded the Jacksonville University Singers and was head of the voice department at the university. In appreciation for his thirty-five years of service to this church and as an acknowledgment of his tremendous contribution to the arts of Jacksonville, on October 4, 1981, Riverside Baptist dedicated the church organ as the C. Edward Bryan Memorial Organ and in February of 1991, established the C. Edward Bryan Arts Series. |
